I’m Natalie Cohen, a registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in Bayside, Melbourne.

I work with adults who are thoughtful, sensitive, and often hard on themselves — people who may appear capable on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or quietly exhausted inside. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, burnout, grief and loss, the impacts of difficult childhood experiences, relationship challenges, identity questions, life transitions, or patterns of self-criticism and overwhelm.

My approach to counselling is warm, reflective, and collaborative. I aim to create a space where you don’t have to perform, explain yourself repeatedly, or have everything figured out. Therapy is a place to slow down, make sense of your experience, and explore change at a pace that feels respectful and realistic

WHY I BECAME A COUNSELLOR

Long before I trained as a counsellor, I found myself naturally in the role of listener. Friends, family, and colleagues often came to me when they needed to talk things through, make sense of complex emotions, or feel understood without judgement.

Over time, it became clear that this way of being — listening deeply, holding space, and helping people reflect on their experiences — was not just something I did, but something I valued deeply. Becoming a counsellor allowed me to bring this natural inclination into a professional, ethical, and intentional framework.

My training gave language, structure, and clinical understanding to what had already felt meaningful: supporting people to understand themselves with greater compassion and clarity.

HOW I WORK

My work is:

  • client-centred and trauma-aware

  • respectful of diverse life experiences and identities

  • grounded in emotional and nervous system understanding

  • focused on understanding patterns rather than judging them

I don’t see people as problems to be fixed. Many of the challenges clients bring — anxiety, burnout, grief, relational difficulties, or coping patterns — developed as ways of surviving life’s demands. Therapy focuses on understanding these patterns rather than blaming them.

I work collaboratively, respecting your autonomy, boundaries, and lived experience. You remain in control of the pace and focus of our work together.

WHO I WORK WITH

I support adults who are:

  • feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or burnt out

  • navigating grief, loss, or difficult life transitions

  • reflecting on the impact of challenging childhood experiences

  • seeking insight into patterns of behaviour, thoughts, or emotions

  • wanting healthier ways to relate to themselves and others

  • exploring questions of identity, purpose, or direction

  • Wondering about adhd or asd

  • Exploring ideas about sexuality

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. What matters is a desire to reflect, understand, and explore change.
